Our college, founded in 2000, is the first college of education in private university ever authorized by MOE in Taiwan.
Since the establishment of CCU, our founder Prof. Chang Chi-Yun had had in his mind to establish an education college. Due to the national education policy, however, there have been several delays. After the revision of the Teacher Education Act in the 1990s, our school was authorized to found the "Center of Teacher Education" in 1995, and then to set up the Department of Education in 1998. From then on, we have started to coordinate campus resources, including teaching force, facilities, space and so on, and organized the following units into the College of Education: (1) Department of Education and Center of Teacher Education formerly affiliated to the College of Liberal Arts, (2) Department of Physical Education, Department of Chinese Martial Arts and Graduate Institute of Sports Coaching Science formerly affiliated to the College of Science, and (3) Child Welfare Research Institute formerly affiliated to the College of Law.
Since the academic year 2020/21, for the enhancement of professionality, three departments – Department of Physical Education, Department of Combat Sports and Chinese Martial Arts, and Department of Sports and Health Promotion – and the Graduate Institute of Sports Coaching Science, have been integrated into a new-founded college, College of Kinesiology and Health.
The first Dean of our college is Professor Wu, Zhen-zhuo, a noted scholar in the history of Chinese education. During his term from August 1, 2000 to July 31, 2003, Dean Wu lay a solid foundation for the development of our college. Professor Ouyang, Jiaw, a distinguished philosopher of education, became Dean of our college on August 1, 2003. Before his retirement on July 31, 2010, Dean Ouyang has built the current organizational structure for our college. The third dean was taken over by Professor Chang Chien-chen, authority in sociology of education, took office on August 1, 2010 to July 31, 2021. Dean Chang embodies the professional trend for the development of our college. The current Dean Professor Liao Yuen-Kuang specializing in Instructional Technology, took over since August 1, 2021.
At present, our college is comprised of Department of Education, Department of Counseling Psychology (including master's degree program), and Center of Teacher Education.
On the basis of the founding principles-modesty and perseverance –of CCU, our collage set up holisticity, diversity and professionality as its mission and is committed to providing holistic education, preparing students to become professionals across disciplines of education and counseling with good character, physical and mental health, multiple abilities, work ethic and global vision. To fulfill the missions, we endeavor to cultivate students’ core competences in academic research, professional services, social praxis and cultural transmission and transformation. By so doing, students are going to be well equipped for the betterment of themselves and of the human race.
Within the next ten years, our college is going to increase its human and material resources and by means of which maintain its leading position in education-related departments and colleges among private universities. The development strategies are as follows:
1. Activating teaching and learning to integrate theory and practice.
2. Boosting research momentum and productivity to solidify our academic strength and reputation.
3. Revamping our organizational structure in line with the global trends to raise our competitiveness in quality and quantity.
